Dental Base Materials – Foundation for Restorative Fillings
Fillings become necessary when a tooth is damaged by caries but is still worth preserving. With a proper filling, the dentist can halt the progression of decay and save the tooth. Once the cavity is prepared and all decayed tissue has been removed, a base material can be applied. This layer protects the dental pulp from painful stimuli and acts as an insulating barrier between the filling material and the nerve.
For deep cavities, metallic fillings, or old amalgam restorations that conduct temperature well, it is recommended to always apply a base material before placing the new filling. The final restoration can then be placed using a variety of materials, ranging from plastic composites to rigid ceramic restorations. In our online shop, you will find a wide selection of high-quality dental base materials from reputable manufacturers, including Voco, Dentsply, and Harvard Dental.
