Anatomical Animal Models
Models for illustrating anatomical structures
Anatomical models are three-dimensional representations of the anatomy of a body, body part or organ, designed to illustrate anatomical structures. These include skeletal models, training models, organ models and acupuncture models. For students, trainees in the veterinary field and pet owners, they provide clear explanatory material, making it possible to describe and visually demonstrate surgical procedures in an accurate and understandable way.
Teaching charts in the field of veterinary medicine also visualise the individual structures of the respective animal organism and label them accordingly. This enables people with little or no medical knowledge to understand and correctly associate specific terms more easily.
Acupuncture models
Anatomical models used to illustrate acupuncture points are known as acupuncture models. These three-dimensional representations are also available in soft materials, allowing acupuncture needle placement to be practised realistically. This means theoretical knowledge can be applied directly in a practical context.
Organ models
As the term suggests, these anatomical models represent individual organs or organ systems. Most of these models are constructed so that the organs depicted can be removed from the body and taken apart. This makes it possible to understand how the various body parts relate to one another. In addition to the individual organs, the musculature of the different animals is also visible.
Skeletal models
To clearly demonstrate anatomical conditions in different animals, animal skeletal models are used. These plastic cast models realistically replicate bones and allow for a true-to-life representation of various skeletons, such as the dog or cat skeleton.
There are also replicas of joints that can be used to demonstrate joint function and practise joint injections. The ligament structures that connect individual bones are also represented in three dimensions. In addition to full animal skeletons, further models such as animal skulls are also available.
Specimens
Prepared examination objects are referred to as specimens. They are particularly suitable for developing skills in microscopic analysis and provide excellent training material for veterinary students and trainees.
Training models
To practise injections or learn various suturing techniques, models that replicate the anatomical structures of an animal are used. These replicas of animal limbs or bodies are equipped, depending on the model type, with plastic vascular systems or a PVC coating to achieve the most realistic representation possible.
