Dressing Material for Veterinary Medicine
Dressing material belongs to the most used consumables in veterinary medicine. Not only does it come into use for treating wounds, but also for strains or breaks.
Wound Wraps for Animals
In order to protect the wound after cleaning and/or surgical wound treatment, an individual wound wrap is applied. This should provide the wound with the required peace it needs to heal in an orderly fashion, without getting contaminated or licked or gnawed by the animal and reopening it. A wound wrap is typically applied with the help of compresses, padding, self-adhering bandages and adhesive tapes. In order to prevent the animal from licking and gnawing, the compression bandages are often applied with bitter substances.
In addition to wraps, animals often also require compressive wraps (for haemostasis), splints (e.g. for conservative fracture treatment) and immobilising wraps (to prevent over exertion). With almost all wraps in veterinary medicine, padding plays an important roll, as it not only serves to absorb wound secretions and keep the dressing from sliding, but it also prevents the occurrence of pressure points and oedema.
