Farrier Tools
Healthy hooves are the foundation of a healthy and fit horse and are therefore an essential part of horse care. Proper hoof care using high-quality tools is particularly important and requires a skilled farrier. Farriers need a variety of tools made from durable materials, such as stainless steel. These instruments, known as farrier tools, are used for the trimming and shoeing of a horse’s hooves.
The tasks of a farrier are diverse and tailored to each individual horse. Whether it is for trimming and correcting barefoot hooves, cutting and rasping the horn in preparation for shoeing, or fitting horseshoes, this category offers a comprehensive selection for every type of hoof care and maintenance.
In addition, we also provide tools and accessories for specialized farrier needs, such as therapeutic treatment of horses with hoof deformities or diseases or for the adjustment of hoof boots.
Farrier Tools for Daily Hoof and Claw Care
Hoof knives, hoof nippers, and rasps are standard tools when it comes to shaping and maintaining a horse’s hooves. For example, a hoof knife is used to trim the frog and sole of the hoof.
The SuperProfi Hoof and Claw Knife, made from high-alloy special steel, offers an exceptionally long service life and excellent sharpenability. This hoof knife is ideal for professional claw trimmers and farriers and is available for both left- and right-handed users.
Using the hoof nippers, excess horn along the toe wall is removed, and any uneven areas of the horn are subsequently smoothed with the rasp.
Professional Horseshoeing and Hoof Care
Thanks to horseshoeing, hooves can be protected against rapid wear from frequent riding. Especially for horses with very slow hoof growth, horseshoes provide relief and protect the sensitive sole from injuries or overstrain caused by hard and rocky ground. For this purpose, the farrier requires special tools such as the horseshoe pull-off pliers, hoof knife, and rasp.
After the old horseshoes and nails are removed, the hooves are reshaped using the hoof knife, hoof nippers, and rasp, and prepared for the new horseshoes. The farrier then fits the new horseshoes using a hammer and anvil before securing them with nails along the white line. The shoeing can be done with either hot or cold horseshoes.
The advantage of hot shoeing is that small uneven areas can be corrected using the hot horseshoe. Additionally, the farrier can clearly see whether the nail holes align with the white line and ensure that the live tissue is not injured. The protruding nails from the hoof wall are trimmed with pliers and sunk into the hoof using a clinching tool.
At Praxisdienst, farriers and hoof care specialists will find high-quality, specialized farrier tools such as the Hufbock EcoFlex and the Kerbl Hoof Knife. Our online shop also offers a wide range of care products and accessories for professional hoof and claw care at competitive prices.
For specialized hoof treatment, such as for laminitis patients, we offer the Technovit® 6091 classic kit. This fast-curing special resin is applied to the hoof or claw together with a wooden block, providing optimal pressure relief for painful hooves. This not only alleviates pain and lameness for the patient but also promotes the healing of the hoof condition.
If you are looking for a specific hoof care tool or farrier accessory, or have questions about a particular model, our friendly customer service team will be happy to assist you via phone, email or live chat.
