Test Strips and Control Solutions
Test Strips, Control Solutions and pH Indicator Paper
Test strips are required for many various medical tests; sometimes in combination with a measuring device and sometimes individually for visual evaluation. However, the products in this category are not to be confused with those used for urinalysis and urology. The parameters measured by our products here are meant for use with very small blood samples and the pursuant analysis devices.
An example of the products in this category are glucose test strips, which are particularly well known for working together with a blood glucose meter to provide a quick and mobile determination of blood sugar levels. Blood glucose meters, such as the Accu-Chek Aviva or Accutrend Plus, come into use in the home, the general practice and in care facilities.
So that you can use the Accutrend Plus, we also offer Accutrend Glucose, Accutrend Cholesterol, Accutrend BM-Lactate and Accutrend Triglyceride test strips; each of which are only meant to measure the specified parameter. We even offer blood glucose test strips for use with Beurer glucometers.
In order to ensure that a glucometer is consistently delivering the correct results, a procedure is carried out with a fresh test strip and the compatible control solution. If the acquired results match those dictated by the manufacturer, then the blood sugar monitor is functioning properly and is ready for further use. Measurements with a control solution should be carried out in regular intervals.
Test Strips for Ophthalmology
Test strips also come into use in other scenarios. In ophthalmology, for example, Fluorescein and Schirmer strips are often required. A Fluorescein eye stain makes cornea defects or the presence of foreign bodies visible via dying the anterior eye segment, or can simply help when fitting contact lenses.
After touching the Fluorescein dye to the eye and asking the patient to blink (to distribute the dye), the ophthalmologist uses a blue light to search the eye for areas appearing green, which are indications for the condition.
Schirmer strips are used to provide quantitative measurement of tears. This is most often done for patients experiencing dry eyes to determine whether or not the eyes are producing enough moisture in the form of tears.
Likewise, this can be done for patients with excessive watering of the eyes. Neither Fluorescein or Schirmer strips require the use of an analysis device, as both types can be visually evaluated.
In the category, Test Strips and Control Solutions, you will also find pH indicator paper that is used for a quick and simple determination of the pH value in urine, saliva and other bodily fluids. This is available either in a pack or on a spool. The pH is measured on a scale from 0-14 and features a clear colour scale for easy reading. A urine pH level that is lower than normal is considered acidic, which is a condition that is conducive for kidney stones, for example. If the pH level is too high, then the patient could be at risk of kidney failure, among other possible conditions.
