Stress & Anxiety Relief for Pets
Just like humans, our pets can also get into situations that trigger anxiety. However, you don't necessarily need medicine to calm your animal's anxiety. Most of the time, natural remedies for anxiety can do the trick. There are all sorts of situations that can make animals anxious and stressed out, whether going to the vet or on a long car journey, facing a new environment or suffering from separation anxiety. Generally, anxiety not only impacts a pet's well-being, but also their behaviour and can cause undesired behaviour like scratching and spraying. Natural tranquilizing agents are a good way to reduce stress and help your four-legged friend be happier and more relaxed. We offer calming aids for kittens and cats, for puppies and dogs, as well as for horses that are particularly gentle and have no side effects.
Pheromone-Based Stress Reduction
Even the smallest changes can cause anxiety and stress-related behaviours in cats. We offer a range of Feliway Classic calming products to help cats adjust to challenging situations and curb unwanted behaviours. The Feliway tranquilizer mimics a cat's natural facial pheromones to create a pleasant atmosphere without any side effects. The cat-friendly Feliway products may be purchased as spray or diffuser and are simple and easy to apply making the struggle of administering tablets a thing of the past. Feliway products emulate natural pheromones and have a calming effect helping cats feel calm and relaxed.
The plug-in diffuser from Feliway allows for continuous use and can be used to reduce stress levels in veterinary practices, in catteries or at home. Benefit from the Feliway Classic Happy Home Starter Set including diffuser and 48 ml bottle and you will only need to re-order the Feliway refill bottle in the future. Also discover the Feliway Spray for spot application - ideal for stress relief on the go and when travelling.
For natural calming in puppies and dogs, we offer Adaptil products in our online shop, e.g. the Adaptil Calm Collar. The collar from Adaptil reduces stress and anxiety in dogs by mimicking dog calming pheromones to help signal to the dog that they are safe and secure. It is important that the collar be fit snugly for optimal effect as the collar is body-heat activated. We also stock the Adaptil Calm Starter Set which consists of a diffuser that can be plugged in and a 48 ml bottle, so that in future you will only have to re-order the refill bottle. In addition, you may purchase the Adaptil Transport Spray, optionally in a 20 ml or 60 ml spray bottle. These Adaptil tranquilisers are the canine equivalent to the Feliway series and mimic dog pheromones. If you have cats and dogs living in the same household, there are no restrictions as the pheromones in each product are species-specific: The Feliway products will not affect your dog, while the Adaptil products will not affect your cat.
Plant-Based Calming Aids for Pets
In our Tranquilizers category you will also find herbal remedies to relieve anxiety and stress in dogs, cats and horses. The Calma calming supplement from cdVet with herbal ingredients is a pure herbal extract mixture with St. John's wort, lemon balm and appetite-stimulating additives. This supplement helps pets remain calm in anxious and stressful situations such as visits to the vet, during fireworks at New Year's Eve or on car trips.
Another natural tranquillizer for effective stress therapy in dogs and horses is CBD Oil. The cannabidiol can be easily mixed with your animal's feed using the pipette and can achieve positive results when used in stress and pain therapy. Just a few drops provide natural relaxation without any intoxicating effects.
Temporary Immobilisation of Horses
Sedative drugs are often used to immobilise horses. These are mainly used for the treatment of larger wounds or for special examinations such as a bronchoscopy. The problem with sedating drugs is that they often take several hours to wear off completely. Since the swallowing act is impaired during this time, horses should neither eat nor drink in order to avoid a pharyngeal blockage or colic. This usually involves close monitoring of the animal until it is safe to eat or drink again.
A Twitch is usually used in order to temporarily immobilise a horse without tranquillisers. This is attached to the horse's upper lip and exerts pressure on acupuncture points located in the nasal region. This releases endorphins that calm the horse. In addition, this type of immobilisation also inhibits pain and ensures painless treatment of, for example, small wounds, dressing changes or joint injections.
