Twitch
The wooden twitch with braided loop is used for short-term restraining of horses during slightly painful or frightening treatments. When used correctly, this is a practical and gentle tranquillisation measure for short-term treatments, for example of the hooves. The effect is based on the release of endorphins due to the pressure on the nasal region and acupuncture points located there.

The twitch is used to immobilise uncooperative horses. The fabric loop is placed over the horse's upper lip. The wooden handle is twisted around itself until the sensitive upper lip is clamped and the horse is outwardly calm.
If the twitch is used very selectively, carefully and in a controlled manner, the animal doesn't feel any great pain. If you are dealing with a painful treatment or examination, the veterinarian will consider sedation or anaesthesia instead of the twitch.
The twitch can be used on restless, frantic or unwilling animals. The use on panicked or extremely anxious animals should, however, be reconsidered.
